Forum Technical Issues and Problems

issues still pending

Postby SunKissedClouds » Sat Nov 12, 2011 9:15 pm

There are a couple forum issues still pending... It's still frustrating to me that these are not getting fixed as fast as I'd like. I've been assured that issues forums are still having are being worked on, but some of them have lower priorities than others.

The ads that have recently reappeared on the forum will hopefully go away soon. I have asked the forumer admins to remove the ads, we were ad free before the server migration and the upgrades and we should still be ad free.

I cannot wait until all this is back to normal. I miss the forum being pink :(

(Hoping this posts this time)
I don't know if it's a forum issue or an IE thing but I've had such difficulty posting anything here at all. Earlier when I tried to add some nice scent reviews the 'sent' page just loaded and loaded for 7 minutes until I finally gave up and slunk off in big fat failure.
SunKissedClouds, You must have the patience of a saint. And it's not til I read the tech threads I realised how much you were doing even to get this amount of functionality and 'normality' for us here (thank you!). Is forumer usually this wobbly?
By the way, if you ever look for a different free forum provider, zetaboards is super. I've had a small forum there for 2 ish years and it's fast loading, easy to customise, and best of all: very stable.

I hope forumer make things work again soon, I hope this posts.., and I hope this isn't all causing you a masive headache! Thank you! <3

Thank you for posting about these. :)
I was wondering if there was somewhere I should report any problems, so I guess this is the place?

I noticed that the "keep me logged in" doesn't keep me logged in.

@Bowea: Thanks, the last month or so with all these issue have made me want to tear my hair out. Mostly I don't feel that patient, if only rolling my eyes, sighing, and shaking my fist at the computer monitor would fix the problems ;)

Forumer wasn't previously this bad. The ownership changed and then they decided to move all the forums to new servers and upgrade all the forum software at the same time. IMO, that was a mistake. I think it would have been a much better idea to change the servers THEN upgrade the forums software. But until the forum disappeared and all the problems came back with it, I had no idea either was happening.

The issues with the forum not loading, posting, or being slow and requiring multiple clicks to do things is a site wide issue, it's been happening to me, bev, and a number of other forums (if not all other forums) as well. They say it's something they're working on, but I see no evidence of improvement :(

I'll definitely take a look at zetaboards! I really hope it doesn't get to the point where it will just be easier to move the forum again, but if it does that's the first one I'll check out!

@Jen: the users not staying logged in is another issue that's happening across the whole site, it's one of the items on my list that they're looking into, but hasn't been fixed yet. If you do come across any issues or any bugs, please mention them here so I can check the help forum to see something that others are experiencing as well, or if it's something I can fix.

At this point there probably isn't much I can do until the underlying problems are worked out by forumer. But if there are new things, I can get us added to the list of forum having the issue in the help forum so at least the forum admins know that we're among those having the problems.

SunKissedClouds, you're amazing and they suck. Your hard work and constant efforts are appreciated though!! <3
If it does come down to moving again (and in 9 years I've moved my group 3 times -and this was before the option of migrating boards existed, so content had to be moved manually, one message at a time.. 0_0- so I feel your pain) then I'll help if you want help. I can also give you a link to my board (with a visitor password as it's closed to the public) so you can see for yourself how it works and feels; press a few buttons, see what you think. :)
